Ascendia contributes Romanian digitalisation practice notes through EPALE
Ascendia published two practice notes on EPALE, the European Commission's open-membership platform for adult learning professionals, covering scalable SME skills delivery and digital inclusion in rural areas.

EPALE — the Electronic Platform for Adult Learning in Europe — is supported by the European Commission as the open-membership multilingual community for adult-learning professionals across Europe. Its audience includes teachers, trainers, researchers, academics, and policymakers working on lifelong learning.
Ascendia contributed two practice notes to the EPALE blog drawing on national digitalisation work in Romania. The notes are intended to surface working approaches, not vendor announcements, and to place Romanian institutional experience inside European policy dialogue on adult digital education.
The first note examines the Digital4All national initiative for SME workforce digital skills, in which Ascendia participates as consortium leader. It records three operational findings: that reusable microlearning resource libraries outperform single one-off courses; that central coordination combined with distributed delivery is what makes scaling tractable; and that cybersecurity needs to be integrated as an everyday habit rather than a separate compliance layer.
The second note examines digital skills for adults in rural Romania. It records that the primary barrier is rarely device or connectivity availability — it is learner confidence, fear of error, and the absence of human support. The working approaches it documents are: breaking information into small steps, blended delivery (digital backed by local support in libraries and schools), and progress measurement against real tasks such as making an online payment or sending a document.
For European programme coordinators, the relevance is twofold: it documents Ascendia's consortium-leader role in a national-scale initiative, and it places Romanian operational practice into a European peer-review channel that EU adult-learning audiences already read.
